It is often said that shipping is a highly fragmented industry in terms of the sheer volume of vessel owning companies making up the world fleet. However an examination of today’s orderbook shows that investment in newbuilds is much more concentrated, and in particular that ordering of alternative fuel ships is especially consolidated with a smaller number of owners leading investment.
